I have had all kinds of ideas for neod but have held off implementation pending a framework that fits in better with power management, etc. See, e.g., my screen lock program at http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/User:Quicksand#zedlock . . . which will be recoded in C and to use dbus just as soon as I get to it!
