These are some of the sources i could find from multiple authors for game music formats. I don’t think that making a player would infringe any copyrights as these files are memory dumps of the console sound engine, they do not contain any roms or such thing. Zophar’s domain has hosted files for Snes, Nes, Genesis, Playstation 1/2 etc for years.

This is only a suggestion as you seem to like MODs and game music very much (so do i, i used to track a lot of music in the Impulse Tracker years!) I am no programmer but would certainely pay the average price you are asking for your apps for an app like this!

@Anthony: Sounds good. Can you point me to libraries or player routines for said systems? I’m afraid Nintendo is quite strict about licenses though, so I’m not sure whether a player with free accessible modules will be possible.

How about a SPC, NSF etc player? Super Nintendo and Nintendo music has a large library that would be awesome to listen to on the go!

@murray: It’s a pleasure Take a look at the .79 cent version or the slightly more expensive Pro version – they both have the download all button [must have at least a bit of incentive to facilitate further development...]

By the way, the version for iPhone OS4 due this summer will feature playing in the background and full access via headphone remote control (finally…). Lots of more cool features coming as well. Oh, and… it’s coming to your iPad as well in a special edition… stay tuned.

Okay, sorry for the , probably dumb, question at this sunday morning, but I can’t figure out how to transfer the whole HVSC-Library (v51) into my iPhone… Is it possible to to do it via my PC, I tried to drag and drop the package into iTunes which didn’t seem to work, or do I have to access http://www.hvsc.c64.org/ directly from my iPhone and download the whole library directly into my phone? As I have only a little amount of free MBs to download I want to be sure how it works before I download the package directly?

P. S. the iPhone is not jailbroken…

@Thinktank: Your view may be applicable to most forums, you’re wrong here though.

@Nullzero: The Sid Player is “just” a playback engine for the C64 music that was very popular in the 80s and still is. As such you have access to over 35000 songs that have been handpicked by the very enthusiastic team that is responsible for the HVSC (High Voltage Sid Collection).

A full composer would be stellar, but is a major undertaking, something we can not deliver. Due to the low visibility and the high amount of (strange *cough* stuff) in the AppStore, iPhone development can only be a part-time job for us — hence we would not even try to create such a major thing as a SID composer.

Plus, we have the Sid Player Lite now so that you can have a free trial.
